Kayla Atkins lived a life that had a positive impact on many. She lived this life to the fullest and challenged everyone around her to do the same. Her example made others want to work harder and be the absolute best they could be. Kayla’s deep faith and values were well beyond her years. Even in her darkest moments she showed integrity and complete selflessness, always taking care of others over the needs of herself.
Kayla’s passion for people was fueled by her love and devotion to help others. Following her freshman year of college, Kayla was diagnosed with leukemia; in spite of her illness, she lived to make a difference, constantly caring for others over herself. In 2012 she lost her battle with cancer.
Her family, in her memory, started the Faith for Kayla Atkins foundation to provide scholarships opportunities for local students and other community service projects. Several area students are granted scholarships each year for elementary education as this was Kayla’s major in school. Community Service projects from the foundation include the Faces of Courage Day, a weekend for women in treatment and cancer survivors to come together for a full day of pampering and encouragement. Other support the foundation provides to local churches for Kayla’s Cupboard a food pantry to help local families in need.
